Front Open Bra: Benefits and Who It Is Best For
A front open bra fastens between the cups instead of at the back. It sounds like a small change, but for many women it is the difference between a bra that is easy to put on and one that is a daily struggle.
Front open bra benefits
- No reaching behind your back. Easier for anyone with stiff shoulders, arthritis, a frozen shoulder or limited movement.
- Good for elderly women. Fastening in front, where you can see the clasp, takes less effort and less time.
- A smooth back. With no hooks behind, there is nothing to press when you sit or lean back, and nothing to show under a fitted kameez.
- Easier during some recoveries. Many women find front fastening simpler while healing from an injury or surgery — but follow your doctor's advice on what to wear.
Is a front open bra good for a heavy bust?
It can be, as long as the band fits well. Support comes mostly from the band, and a front-fastening bra cannot be moved to a tighter hook later, so getting the band size right matters even more. Measure first with our bra size chart, and look for full cups and adjustable straps.
Disadvantages to know
Most front clasps have a single fixed setting. On a back-hook bra you can move to a tighter hook as the elastic relaxes over months of washing; with a front clasp you cannot, so the bra may feel looser sooner. Choose the snugger band if you are between sizes.
How to put on a front open bra
Slip the straps over your shoulders, lean slightly forward so the bust settles into the cups, then fasten the clasp in front. Adjust the straps last, once the band sits level across your back.
